Olympic flame rides the Tube

The Olympic flame has taken the Tube as it continues its week-long journey through the capital. A total of 144 torchbearers, including rower James Cracknell and skier Chemmy Alcott, carried the flame 43 miles across London.

Great North Run founder to carry Olympic Flame

Brendan Foster devised the run, which has become the world's second largest half marathon and is seen as a major showcase for the North East.

The athletes' handover will take place at around 8.20am in front of an expected crowd of thousands on The Leas.

On Sunday, England cricketer Paul Collingwood will pick up the Torch as it leaves Durham on its journey to Teesside.
