France to seek UN Security Council meeting on Syria

France will ask for an urgent UN Security Council ministerial meeting on Syria to try to end the diplomatic deadlock and prevent further bloodshed.

Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius confirmed the move today in a radio interview, during which he branded President Bashar al Assad an "executioner."

It comes as the French prepare to take over the presidency of the UN Security Council on Wednesday.
