Victoria Pendleton missed out on a third and final Olympic gold after defeat to Australia's Anna Meares in the best-of-three women's sprint final.
Pendleton saw her first heat win overturned after a retrospective relegation and failed to defeat Meares in the second heat.
The Team GB star, who now heads into retirement, battled tears as she took the acclaim of the velodrome for an Olympic career that has landed her two gold medals and now a silver.
