Ben Needham's mother, Kerry, said previously it was "very unlikely" that her son could be buried beneath the mound, because she believes it was there when he disappeared. But MP Angela Smith, who has supported the Needham family, says the search is still important:
Hopefully they won't find Ben in that rubble and it closes down another line of inquiry and narrows down the possibilities. I know that she (Mrs Needham) will be very keen for this work to be undertaken and rock solid confident, I'm sure, that they won't find Ben there.
Sniffer dogs and diggers have arrived at a vacant plot on the Greek Island of Kos where police have launched a new search for Ben Needham.
British police searching for missing Ben Needham will start digging up an area close to where he went missing in Greece.
