Report: Iraq cancels £2.6bn arms deal with Russia

Iraq has today cancelled an arms deal worth £2.6 billion with Russia, according to Hakim al-Zamali, a member of Iraq's Security and Defense Committee, the government-owned newspaper Al Sabah reported.

The prime minister has formed a new committee to negotiate with Russia for buying more sophisticated arms than the ones in the cancelled deal.

The announcement comes just a month after Iraq struck the deal, which would have made Russia the second biggest arms supplier to Iraq after the US.
