A security guard died after being swallowed by a sinkhole which suddenly opened up beneath him in southern China.
Yang Xibing, 25, was working at a residential compound in Shenzhen city when the ground beneath him opened up, leaving a 20-metre-deep (65 feet) hole on Tuesday, according to state television CCTV.
The manager of the property told CCTV that he had been to check on the property after receiving complaints from residents about feeling tremors around a nearby illegal construction site when the tragedy happened.
"I went to next door to take some photos and ask for information with another colleague when it happened. It was so sudden that nobody saw it coming," said the unidentified man. Rescue workers reached the guard and took him to a nearby hospital but he died soon after, CCTV reported.
