The Queen has sent a private message to Chris Froome congratulating him on winning the Tour de France, Buckingham Palace announced today.

The Kenyan-born Briton won the 100th edition of the famous race on Sunday to become the second British rider to win in consecutive years after Sir Bradley Wiggins' triumph in 2012.
