Ex officer investigated over 'acting on behalf of' Savile

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an independent investigation in relation to the alleged actions of a former inspector with West Yorkshire Police.

The allegations refer to the then officer having ‘acted on behalf’ of Jimmy Savile by inappropriately contacting Surrey Police ahead of a police interview in 2009.

The investigation follows a direction from the IPCC to West Yorkshire Police to record and refer the conduct of the former inspector, identified in a Surrey Police report as ‘Inspector 5’.
