Hundreds of jobs at BAE Systems shipyards in Glasgow are under threat, STV reports.

The defence firm is expected to announce on Thursday that it is cutting around 1000 posts at its bases in Govan and Scotstoun in Glasgow, as well as in Plymouth and Portsmouth.

It follows BAE Systems announcement that five cranes are to be decommissioned.

On Saturday, Scotland's Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon called on the defence contractor to "come clean" about the future of Govan shipyard.

"BAE has to come clean. The workforce has been through the mill too many times before. It would be outrageous if Govan doesn't have a future", she said.
