BBC broadcaster John Cole dies

Former BBC Political Editor John Cole has died at 85 after a long illness. He was in the role from 1981 until the 1992 General Election. David Cameron led the tributes, saying: "He is someone who contributed so much to British political life."

ITN rival: MPs trusted Cole so they told him things

Former ITN Political Editor Michael Brunson has said he was in "awe" of his BBC counterpart John Cole during their years reporting from Westminster.

He explained how his "fierce rival", who has died at the age of 85, was able to gain such good access to the corridors of power.
