May 'take days' to confirm if signals are from MH370

The head of the search in the southern Indian Ocean for flight MH370 has said it "could take days" to confirm if the detected signals were that of the missing plane.

Angus Houston told a news conference the discovery was "very encouraging" but explained the position of the noise needs to be further refined, and then an underwater autonomous vehicle can be sent in to investigate.

"It could take some days before the information is available to establish whether these detections can be confirmed as being from MH370, he said.

"In very deep oceanic water, nothing happens fast."
