Comedian Stephen Colbert will takeover from David Letterman as the host of long-running US talk show the Late Show, CBS has announced.
Colbert, who currently hosts the topical satire show The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, said he was "thrilled and grateful" CBS has chosen him for the role.
“Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps," Colbert said. "Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth."
CBS president Leslie Moonves called Colbert "one of the most inventive and respected forces on television".
