Government announces new Eurotunnel electricity link

A new plan to use the Channel Tunnel to link the British and French power grids was unveiled today by the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander.

The Eleclink project is expected to send as much as 50% more electricity between the UK and France, with Eurotunnel hopeful that construction will start by the end of this year.

Mr Alexander said the proposals were a "showcase example" of what the Government could achieve through new infrastructure.
