A poll by former Conservative party deputy chairman Lord Ashcroft has found Labour could win "a comfortable majority" in the 2015 general election.

Labour takes Crawley and Amber Valley

The Labour Party has won a majority in Crawley, with new council leader Peter Lamb becoming one of the youngest in the country at the age of 27.

The party also gained overall control of Amber Valley in a nail-biting count which went down to the very last seat.

The wins mean Labour has gained overall control of seven councils so far.
