'More than 50 killed' in Donetsk fighting

Pro-Russian rebels have said the death toll during two days of fighting in the eastern Ukraine city of Donetsk has now risen to 50. Ukraine's military launched a strike on rebels who had taken the international airport in the eastern city.

Polls have opened in Ukraine's presidential elections, with oligarch Petro Poroshenko and former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko the front-runners.

The vote has been marred by fighting with pro-Russian separatists in the east of the country which means large numbers of the electorate will not be able to cast a ballot.
