Bookmakers William Hill said people will bet more on the outcome of the Scottish independence referendum than any other political event in the history.

"We have already taken almost a million pounds on the Referendum outcome and our total turnover on the last General Election in 2010 was no more than one a half million,' said William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

The bookmakers says that 56% of all bets have been on a No vote and 44% for Yes.

An unnamed punter has placed a £400,000 bet on the No vote earlier this week.
