British businessman Shrien Dewani may be required to give evidence for the first time after a British coroner confirmed it is "working towards a hearing date" over the murder of his wife Anni.

The Bristol care home tycoon was cleared in a South African trial of arranging the honeymoon murder of his new bride after the judge dismissed the case against him.

Dewani has never spoken publicly about his wife' death, with the trial thrown out before he was due to give evidence.

A spokeswoman for North London Coroner's Court said: "The coroner is in contact with the parties working towards a hearing date for this matter."
