Man held for allegedly helping British schoolgirls cross into Syria

A man has been detained for allegedly helping three British schoolgirls cross into Syria, Turkey's foreign minister has said.

The man worked for the intelligence services of a country in the US-led coalition fighting Islamic State (IS), Mevlut Cavusoglu is quoted by Turkish media saying.

Shamima Begum, 15, Kadiza Sultana, 16, and 15-year-old Amira Abase, all students at Bethnal Green academy in east London, fled the UK last month to reportedly join IS.

Sister's plea: 'No one could love our baby more than us'

Renu Begum, the older sister of Shamima Begum, the GCSE student missing from her home in East London and feared to be on her way to Syria, has described the devastating impact of her disappearance.

She said the family are still hoping that she was just visiting her friend who had made the same journey to Syria to "talk some sense into her."

She says the family are desperate to have their baby home, and safe and that they love her more than anyone else in the world could.
