The top Islamic State commander in Afghanistan has been killed in a US airstrike.

Hafez Saeed died along with 30 other militants in the Nangarhar province late on Friday, Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security said.

Saeed was among a small but increasing number of senior Taliban militants who have recently switched allegiance to Islamic State.

He is the third IS commander to be killed in a week following the deaths of Shahidullah Shahid and Gul Zaman.
