New York settles Eric Garner killing case for $5.9m

New York City has reached a settlement with the family of man who died after being restrained by police in July 2014.

The family of Eric Garner - who died after being put in an illegal 'choke hold' by police - will receive $5.9 million to resolve the claim over his killing, The New York Times has reported, citing a family lawyer.
