On the day UN chief Ban Ki-moon told ITV News that Britain should do more to help the influx of refugees arriving into Europe, hundreds more Syrians reached the safety of Greece.
One passenger ferry docked in the Athens port of Piraeus with 2,500 on board. They came via the Greek island of Lesbos, where smaller boats are arriving unchallenged.
