The man charged with organising the hunt that killed Zimbabwe's most prized lion Cecil has been arrested for trying to smuggle antelopes into South Africa.

Hunter Theo Bronkhorst was arrested by Zimbabwean police following the discovery of sable antelopes, ITV News Africa correspondent John Ray reported.

According to local media, 29 sable were found in three 4x4 trucks trying to cross the border.

Bronkhorst has previously pleaded not guilty to "failing to supervise, control and take reasonable steps to prevent an unlawful hunt" and is due to go on trial over the death of Cecil, who was shot by US dentist Walter Palmer, later this year.
