Turkey's President says that the downing of a Russian warplane near the Turkish/Syrian border was "fully in line with Turkey's rules of engagement".

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says that his country's military made "all efforts to avoid" the incident, which saw Turkish F16 fighter jets engage and shoot down a Russian SU-24 warplane.

Mr Erdogan also condemned the bombing by Russia of Syrian Turkmens, saying the group are in an area where so-called Islamic State militants aren't present.
