Rescue efforts in Carlisle continue into the night

As rescue efforts continue into the night in Carlisle, a place devastated by floods ten years ago, there are growing concerns that the situation may have been worsened by the diversion of funds from some flood defence projects that were considered a low priority.

Environmental agency documents show 294 schemes have either been shelved or delayed, and government advisers say the number of homes threatened from global warming is set to quadruple in the next 20 years.

Around 55,000 homes are without power and 2,000 under water.tonight, Dan Rivers reports from Carlisle.
