The Shadow Health Secretary has said it is a "deeply, deeply sad day for the NHS" as junior doctor's prepare to walk out for a two day strike starting tomorrow.

Heidi Alexander said that there is no trust left between people who work in the NHS and Jeremy Hunt and warned him that if he ploughs on with current plans then "history will not be kind to him".

She added: "Tomorrow's strike is one of the saddest days in the history of the NHS.

"And the saddest thing is that the person sat opposite me could have prevented it."
