Euro 2016: Police arrest 36 people after clashes in Lille

French police have arrested at least 36 people following clashes with football fans in Lille.

On several occasions police charged crowds of chanting supporters, and red flares were let off amid a tense stand-off with officers.

The clashes followed the conclusion of Russia's match against Slovakia and come ahead of the England and Wales match to be played in nearby Lens later on Thursday.

Euro 2016: Seven arrests so far at outbreak of fan violence

At least seven people have been arrested in Marseilles so far as clashes erupted between English and Russian fans before the opening of Euro 2016.

Police were forced to use tear gas on numerous occasions as scenes resembling chaos ensued in the port city - near to England's base.

"As the tear gas plumes fill the air, English pride is in tatters", ITV News Correspondent Emma Murphy reports.
