Police are investigating possible links to right-wing extremism in their investigation into the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox.

Armed officers arrest man after MP shot in Yorkshire

Armed officers have arrested a 52-year-old man in West Yorkshire after Labour MP Jo Cox was shot in the street.

Ms Cox is in a critical condition in hospital after the attack, which happened in Market Street, Birstall, shortly before 1pm.

"A man in his late 40s to early 50s nearby also suffered slight injuries," a West Yorkshire Police spokesman said.

"Armed officers attended and a 52-year-old man was arrested in the area. There are no further details at present.

"Police presence in the area has been increased as a reassurance to the community."
