Singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen died in his sleep after falling down in the middle of the night, his manager said.
Robert B Kory said Cohen's death at his Los Angeles home, was "sudden, unexpected and peacful".
He said Cohen died on November 7 - three days before it was revealed to the public.
The Canadian singer was 82 when he died and was in declining health for much of the year.
Kory didn't reveal the nature of his illness.
Cohen is survived by his children, Adam and Lorca, and his three grandchildren, Cassius, Viva and Lyon.
