Body found in search for pensioner who went missing in Storm Angus

Police have found a body in the search for a 69-year-old man who went missing in severe flooding during Storm Angus.

Officers recovered a car believed to belong to Russell Sherwood in Neath, South Wales, on Tuesday.

Enquiries to identify the body will follow in due course.

Mr Sherwood’s family have been informed of the discovery and are being updated and supported by specially trained officers.

Wet weather is expected to sweep across the south west and move northwards over the next 24 hours, causing damage and disruption on already saturated ground.

The Environment Agency said it is preparing to put up temporary defences "where necessary", and added that rivers have been cleared to ensure water can flow freely.
