Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman has been extradited to the US.
Guzman - Mexico's most notorious cartel kingpin - is believed to have arrived in New York on Friday morning.
In a short statement, the US Justice Department said Guzman was taken to the "United States to face criminal charges in connection with his leadership of the Mexican organized crime syndicate known as the 'Sinaloa Cartel.'"
He faces charges of drug trafficking and other charges.
Guzman has twice made brazen prison escapes and spent years on the run as the country's most wanted man.
He was recaptured a year ago after escaping from a second maximum-security prison through a tunnel dug to his cell.
He had fought extradition since then.
New York is one of several US jurisdictions where Guzman faces charges.
