Rangers are closing in on the signing of Port Vale goalkeeper Jak Alnwick. The 23-year-old was at Rangers' training ground on Monday for a medical.

Rangers are understood to have submitted a £250,000 offer for the former Newcastle player on Friday and negotiations over the payment structure appear to have been successful.

League One Vale's caretaker manager, Michael Brown, admitted at the weekend that Alnwick had probably played his last game for the club.

The deal will likely allow Matt Gilks to move on in search of more regular first-team football.
