Sir Alex Ferguson will make a cameo return to the Old Trafford dugout this summer after four years of retirement.

The long-time Manchester United boss will manage a United XI in Michael Carrick's testimonial against an All-Star XI led by another of the midfielder's former managers Harry Redknapp.

Sir Alex's side will see Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs take the field as part of the 2008 Premier League and Champions League-winning squad.

Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Michael Owen will feature in the opposition.

Carrick said he was "honoured" to recruit Sir Alex for the day, adding: "He's the man who probably taught me to win."
