A 38-year-old man being held on remand in Maghaberry Prison has died, the Northern Ireland Prison Service has confirmed.
The death occurred at the high-security facility near Lisburn on Wednesday morning.
The man’s next of kin have been informed and investigations have been launched by the PSNI, the Coroner and the Prisoner Ombudsman.
Head of the Prison Service Ronnie Armour said: “I would like to extend my sympathy and that of the Northern Ireland Prison Service to the family of the man who has died in Maghaberry this morning.
“My thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
