- Belfast Giants 5 - 2 Nottingham Panthers
The Belfast Giants won out in their first of two back-to-back home games against the Nottingham Panthers.
The hosts were keen to build on their Challenge Cup quarter-finals success and build momentum in their league campaign, now the business end of the season is in full swing.
However, Friday night saw the Giants go a goal down early on, when Mark Derlago opened the scoring for the Panthers after barely a minute.
The Belfast side didn’t wait long to find a reply though.
Sébastien Sylvestre fired home the puck on the powerplay, assisted by David Rutherford and Cole Jarrett, to make it 1-1.
The Panthers quickly retook the lead again through Tom Billingsley.
But Giants defenceman Spiro Goulakos was on hand to draw his team back level again before the end of that opening period.
The second period saw the Giants edge in front with a great goal from Jonathan Ferland, before the third period saw them close out the game.
Sylvestre got his second goal of the game to double the home side’s lead, while Brendan Connolly’s empty-netter rounded off the 5-2 victory.
The sides meet again on Saturday night at the SSE Arena Belfast, with face-off at 7pm.
