A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, arson and a number of other offences in connection with a burglary at a house in County Down.

Passers-by rescued a woman from a fire after she had been tied up at the property near Clough last Monday.

Along with two other men, aged 27 and 30, he has also been charged in connection with four other burglaries.

The three men have been charged with a number of offences including aggravated burglary and stealing, false imprisonment, burglary, going equipped for burglary and handling stolen goods.

The burglaries occurred in Ballyward, Belfast, Downpatrick and Ardglass between Tuesday 20 and Friday 23 February.

All three are expected to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates Court on Monday 26 February.
