Belfast’s vibrant Cathedral Quarter is set to be transformed by one of Northern Ireland’s most dynamic arts festivals.

For 11 days in May, the city will host the best in local, national and international acts across music, comedy, theatre and literature.

More than 80 events for all ages will take place at venues across the culturally rich city for the 19th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival.

The festival was born from the desire to reclaim the city centre after it was left almost deserted in the evenings during the Troubles.

However, as Deborah McAleese reports, its success is being somewhat overshadowed by concerns over funding to keep the festival up and running.
