Two people have died after a boat capsized off the coast of Malin Head in Co Donegal.

A teenage boy and a man in his 60s had been on a fishing trip when their boat got into difficulty.

The man was recovered from the water and pronounced dead at the scene, while the teenager was airlifted to hospital and later died.

Another man in his 50s remains in hospital.

The coastguard, Lough Swilly RNLI, gardaí and local people were all involved in the rescue operation on Tuesday afternoon.

The RNLI said the alarm was raised when cries for help were heard on the shore.

Joe Joyce said: “At that stage, a local fishing boat had come along and had picked up a guy that was clinging to a buoy.

“The Coastguard helicopter from Sligo was also dispatched, and they airlifted a guy to Altnagelvin Hospital.

“Later on, a multi-agency group recovered another person from the water’s edge.”
