A teenage boy has been injured when he was hit by a falling sheep while walking on Slieve Bearnagh in the Mourne Mountains.

The group the boy was part of had to call for help from the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team on Friday afternoon.

They attended the scene, close to the Hare’s Gap area, and found the boy in need of medical attention for potential injuries to his head, neck, back, abdomen and leg.

A spokesperson for the rescue team said: “The casualty was evacuated by stretcher to track access and a team vehicle.

“After a short transfer to road access, the casualty was handed over to the NI Ambulance Service for further treatment and the onward journey to hospital.”

The sheep, which fell from a crag, is understood to have been uninjured.
