A 25-year-old man charged with sexually assaulting a baby and grievous bodily harm with intent has been remanded again in custody.
The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for a brief hearing.
He spoke only to confirm his identity.
The charges arose after an infant was found to have sustained serious injuries in an incident in Co Down on Saturday 29 September.
The baby had to be treated in a paediatric intensive care unit in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
Following Wednesday’s court hearing, the accused will appear again in the same court via video link on 7 November.
