Ambitious plans for a £25m regeneration scheme along the banks of the Foyle, including the biggest art installation on the island of Ireland, have been unveiled.
Under the proposals, both sides of Londonderry’s Foyle Bridge would be illuminated with 12,000 12ft structures, with the design based on river reeds.
It is a place where too many lives have been lost to suicide, but it is hoped the proposals could help towards improving mental health and well-being in Derry.
The bright lights along a six-mile loop would be the centrepiece of the Our Future Foyle project, aimed at making the area more vibrant and encouraging it to thrive.
Funding still has not been secured though and the public will also have a chance to have their say on the proposals, as Gareth Wilkinson reports.
