Victim named amid Newcastle murder investigation

Police have named the victim of a murder in Newcastle, Co Down as 29-year-old Padraig Fox.

An investigation was launched after a post mortem on a body found in a flat in the Burrendale Park Road area on Saturday.

A 26-year-old man remains in custody for questioning, with police granted an extra 36 hours to hold him.

Meanwhile, a second man – aged 21 – has also been arrested on suspicion of murder.

PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Boyce, who is leading the investigation said: “The man has been taken to Musgrave Police Station and is currently assisting with police enquiries.

“We continue to appeal to anyone with any information to contact detectives on 101.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
