A machete or cleaver type knife has been used to threaten two women working in a shop in north Belfast during a robbery.

The incident happened in the Oldpark Road area at about 9pm on Saturday.

Although the women escaped injury, police say they were left very badly shaken.

The man behind the armed robbery is described as being 5ft 8ins tall and was wearing a dark puffa jacket, a hoodie with the hood up, a red scarf covering his face, and orange builder-type gloves.

He made off with the till in the direction of Ardoyne Avenue, along with a second suspect who is believed to have been waiting outside the shop.

The till was found abandoned in an alleyway off Oldpark Square.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area to contact them on 101.
