Protester to walk 90 miles to Stormont over lack of NI government for two years
An Enniskillen man is set to walk 90 miles from his home to Stormont in protest at the lack of government in Northern Ireland.
January marks the second anniversary since Stormont collapsed and Dylan Quinn's undertaking the mammoth trek to encourage politicians to restore power-sharing.
Mr Quinn has been training to travel the highways and by-ways of Northern Ireland in an effort to put Stormont back on track.
He told UTV: “We need to move forward, they are MLAs and political parties need to show political leadership in moving forward, so I want to demonstrate that physically by moving forward and in a challenging way of doing that by walking from Enniskillen to Stormont.
“I know that I’ll face a number of challenges on the way but I’m going to face up to those challenges and work out how I get around it and I suppose that’s what I’m trying to say to them, that that’s what they need to do.”
Dylan is a founder of the We Deserve Better campaign.
A video post from a field in Fermanagh grew into a movement.
Hundreds protested in towns and cities last August when Northern Ireland marked over 500 days without a government.
Dylan wants to keep the message going and his walk begins in Enniskillen on Saturday 5 January. He estimates he’ll walk the 90 miles in about 28 hours over two and a half days.
The campaigner is taking his hopes for a power-sharing government to the place it once sat and wants our politicians to follow.
He added: “[It's] a peaceful, civil action to try and say come on, let’s pull this together, we deserve better let's take it forward into the future so we really make it a better future for our children.”
