Two held after cash-in-transit van robbed at gunpoint

Two men have been arrested after a cash-in-transit van was robbed at gunpoint outside a filling station in Greysteel, Co Londonderry.

The incident happened on the Clooney Road at about noon on Saturday.

The guards were threatened at gunpoint, before the suspects fled on foot with the cash cassette towards houses in the St Columbas Walk area.

The cash cassette has yet to be recovered.

One of the men arrested, aged 24, is being held on suspicion of robbery, possession of a firearm with intent, and possession of a Class B controlled drug.

The other man, aged 37, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, possession of a firearm with intent, using a mobile phone while driving, and driving without insurance.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, including drivers who may have dash-cam footage, to contact them.
