A man has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a man four days after he was assaulted in Limavady.

Darren McGurk, 23, suffered serious head injuries at a house in the Glenbeg Walk area last Wednesday, but died in hospital on Sunday.

Karl Mark John Watson, from Glenview Drive in Limavady, had been charged with grievous bodily harm against Mr McGurk.

However, the 32-year-old was then re-arrested and charged with murder.

He appeared before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning, also accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Watson spoke only to confirm that he understood the charges against him.

No application for bail was made and he was remanded into custody.
