Police are searching for convicted murderer Thomas McCabe who is unlawfully at large from prison again, having also absconded last year.

The 55-year-old, originally from Northern Ireland, was sentenced to life for murder in England in 1990 after beating to death a teenage cousin of his then girlfriend.

He was later transferred to Northern Ireland to serve out his sentence.

McCabe was released on licence, but it was revoked after a number of breaches.

He previously went on the run after failing to return to Maghaberry Prison in January 2018 and is now on the run again.

PSNI Detective Constable William Arnott said: “He is described as around 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build with short grey coloured hair.

“We believe he has connections to Newry, Newtownabbey, and Dublin.”

DC Arnott added: “I would appeal to anyone who has seen Thomas McCabe, or who knows of his whereabouts, to contact us on 101.

“I would also appeal directly to him to hand himself in.”
