A dog stolen from its home has been thrown in a canal in Co Tyrone, chained to a concrete block.
The Samoyed was rescued from the water in Coalisland by council enforcement officers.
It was then cleaned up and looked after by the Mid Ulster Rehoming Centre for Dogs, before it was established that the animal had been stolen.
It has now been reunited with its owners, but police are still investigating how the dog came to be in the canal.
Posting on Facebook, PSNI Dungannon & South Tyrone branded the incident a “disgusting attack on a defenceless dog”.
They are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
