West Belfast shooting victim ‘chased by gunman’

A man remains in a critical condition after being chased and shot by a gunman in west Belfast in broad daylight on Monday.

The 30-year-old victim is understood to have just left a local chip shop when he was targeted on the Springfield Road at about 7.40pm.

He was shot multiple times, suffering lower leg injuries.

It is believed his attacker then fled on foot along the Kashmir Road.

PSNI Detective Inspector Michael McDonald said: “This was a reckless and ruthless attack carried out in broad daylight beside a busy main road in a residential area and endangered the lives of everyone in the vicinity.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident, or who may have captured the scene on dash-cam, to contact detectives at Musgrave on 101.”
