A paint attack on an Orange Hall in Glenavy is being treated as a sectarian hate crime.

The hall on Main Street was attacked some time between Sunday and Monday morning, police said.

It is believed jars containing white paint were thrown over it.

The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has condemned the attack.

County Grand Secretary of Co Antrim Billy Thompson said: “We are very disappointed that some people are prepared to resort to such sectarian attacks, particularly as this incident comes on the back of similar attacks over July period.”

PSNI Superintendent Davy Beck said: “I have spoken to a number of community representatives in the area and what is clear to me is that no one wants to see this type of activity in Glenavy.

“If you were in the area and noticed anything suspicious or you noticed anyone in the area of the hall my officers would be keen to speak with you.”
