Rampant Larne put six past Warrenpoint on opening day of season

Premiership new boys Larne Town made an emphatic return to the top tier as they beat Warrenpoint Town 6-0 at Inver Park.

Martin Donnelly and David McDaid both got a brace while Jeff Hughes and Mark Randall also getting on the scoresheet.

Mark Randall got the pick of the goals with a 40-yard strike which sailed past the Warrenpoint keeper.

Champions Linfield also got off to a winning start against Institute. Kirk Millar, Jordan Stewart and Ryan McGivern scored to give the Blues a 3-1 win.

Crusaders beat newly-promoted Carrick Rangers 3-0 at Seaview while tributes were paid to former Cliftonville boss Tommy Breslin as the Reds drew 1-1 with Coleraine.

The ex-manager died while on holiday earlier this week. A minute's silence was held before the start of each game.

In Saturday's other game, Dungannon Swifts drew 2-2 with David Jeffrey's Ballymena United.
